Georgiaville Baptist Church is an American Baptist Church. We recently celebrated our 175^th year of ministry. We have a membership of approximately 110 parishioners. Our worship service is held on Sunday mornings at 9:30, with Sunday School running concurrently, followed by a coffee hour. We offer Sunday School classes from nursery age to high school seniors.

Purpose of the Georgiaville Baptist Church

At Georgiaville Baptist Church we welcome and encourage all people

THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST

BELIEVERS BAPTISM

Baptism is only for believers in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and the mode for non-Christians is immersion, as taught in the New Testament.

REGENERATE CHURCH MEMBERSHIP

Church membership is only for believers by personal reason, understanding, and decision.

SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE

The state and the government should protect all religious groups, but should favor none, in any way, over another.

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Every person is responsible only to God for his religious beliefs and practices; so he should have the right to worship God, through Jesus Christ, as his own convictions and his conscience direct him to do. (So long as this is not to the detriment of others.)

Of interest to high school seniors:

The Ed and Penny Gatta Memorial Fund is offering scholarships to students from Georgiaville Baptist Church. These scholarships can be obtained by doing a project that helps the elderly, shut-ins, Sunday School, or those less fortunate. Students must submit a project plan to the pastor by December 15^th and write a short essay at the conclusion of the project that describes what they did and what they gained from the experience.

Scholarships will be awarded upon graduation from high school. Student must be going on for further education to be eligible. The amount of money will be determined by the number of applicants.

Georgiaville Baptist Church installed a new pastor on January 16th, 2011. Reverend John Marr lives in Moosup, Ct. with his wife, Janice, and two sons, John and Joshua. Pastor John was raised in a Christian environment and yielded allegiance to Christ at age eleven. He taught Sunday School and assisted with Vacation Bible School while attending High School.

Reverend Marr studied at SUNY Binghamton, NY and at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wynnewood, PA where he received his Masters in Divinity, and he was ordained in 1985.

He served 22 years in the Naval Reserves as a Chaplin, primarily in the United States Marine Corps and has been a Pastor since 1985, serving the Lord in small town and small city churches in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Reverend Marr considers himself to be a good listener, empathetic, understanding, conscientious, energetic, perceptive, able to “read” people in counseling situations and above all, capable of evidencing and displaying the love of Jesus Christ to all people.

His positive, uplifting sermons are sure to leave you inspired. We strongly encourage everyone to join us for worship on Sundays at 9:30am. Sunday School for Kindergarten age children through High School age students runs concurrently with the worship service. A time for fellowship during Coffee Hour follows.

Georgiaville Baptist Sunday School

The Georgiaville Baptist Sunday School is a wonderful place for children to learn stories of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus.

Our Sunday School is currently comprised of students from nursery age right up through high school seniors. Our teaching staff is formed by dedicated men and women with many years experience.

We offer five classes: Nursery, Younger Elementary, Older Elementary, Junior and Senior High. When students enter the Older Elementary class, the church presents them with their very own New International Version of the Bible that is easy for them to read and understand. When students enter the Junior High class, the church presents them with a new Contemporary English Version of the Bible, specifically geared towards older children with greater knowledge of vocabulary.

The Sunday School students also participate in the Junior Choir; singing songs each week and typically learning special songs for our Christmas and Easter Programs each year.

Throughout the year, the Sunday School organizes and participates in special theme days and fellowship events. Theme days during Sunday School include Rally Day, Christmas Program, Easter Program, and Children’s Day. Rally Day kicks off the new school year each September with different themes year-to-year. Last year’s theme was Awesome Autumn Adventure where students solved bible themed clues and went on a treasure hunt to find the mystery items for each class. This year’s theme involved a campfire, movie, and campout. Children’s Day is celebrated at the end of the school year in June and is a special service where each class presents what it learned throughout the year to the congregation. Fellowship events in the past have included campfires, outdoor movies, hayrides, corn mazes, Halloween Parties with haunted house, Christmas Parties, ice cream socials, bag auctions, penny socials, and Easter egg hunts. These events are open to the entire church and community.

The Sunday School also raises funds for learning materials and events by participating in calendar sales in the fall, plant sales in the spring, and bake sales throughout the year.

Our Sunday School is very open and friendly, and there is always room for more students, and even teachers, to come and join the fun and learning each week.

Youth Group

A new Georgiaville Baptist Church Youth Group was formed in October, 2009 and is lead by Sharon Angelone and Steven Pratt. The Youth Group plans to provide community service opportunities as well as participate in fun and interesting activities. Several events have taken place so far, and Sharon is very excited about this new opportunity with the youth in this area.

The Youth Group has taken part in the feeding ministry of Church of the Master in Olneyville. Georgiaville Baptist Church is responsible for helping to prepare food, feed breakfast to the needy, and clean up every 4^th Saturday of the month.

For fun activities, they have had theme dinners, played Monster Golf, and have hosted the other Baptist Youth Groups of Rhode Island, enjoying an evening of live music games, and fellowship.

The Women’s Fellowship

A gathering of women for fun and fellowship, service to others, support of missions, both local and abroad, and for spiritual enrichment. The group meets on the 4^th Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm. Yard Sales and Holiday Bazaar are our annual fund raisers. With the money raised, we are able to make donations to help the following:

Prayer Shawl Ministry Knitters

The knitters: Evelyn Beaumier, Mary Corte, Margaret Pearson, Karin Cornell, Pastor Ethel Corbin, Liz Inman, Ann Walker, Pat Walker, Jill Paterson, and Josephine Pimentel meet weekly on Thursday afternoons at 1:30 at Georgiaville Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome. It is such a rewarding ministry and a blessing to be part of it.

We have given many prayer shawls, new born prayer wraps, and toddler wraps since we started and have added the recipients to our growing prayer list. The ministry reaches out to those in need of healing or comfort, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every shawl. If you know of anyone that you would like us to pray for and be given a prayer shawl, please speak with one of the knitters.

Homespun yarn is used in the knitting of the shawls. We receive money donations for the purchase of the yarn.
